What is the purpose of a shroud in weld cleaning?

Shrouds are essential for using with an electrolytic weld cleaner, particularly for improving the quality of the weld.

The insulating shroud slides on over the carbon fibre brush.
The main purpose of this is to protect the fibres on the brush from splaying, as it concentrates them into a smaller area, which therefore concentrates the cleaning power into one area for a better defined result.
The shroud also protects the brush from shorting in confined spaces, which enables effective weld cleaning, even in tight corners.
How to use a shroud:
Push the shroud onto the wand
Twist the brush about 80% into the wand
Pull the shroud down over the brush slightly, ensuring that the triangle shape is matched to the brush's shape
Twist around to lock brush into position
Pull the shroud down over the brush, leaving around 0.5cm of brush fibres free to clean
Move upwards as the brush wears through
